My Last Day as a Wage Slave March 31, 2012

Tonight's shift at work will mark my last day as employee after 15 years of employment. I started working at the age of 14 at a retail golf store and quickly moved into the restaurant business at 15 bussing tables.  I would highly recommend that anyone looking to start their own business build up their skills as a server.  You get cash in hand every night plus you have your days open to build your own business.  Serving has allowed me to find work wherever I have moved to. I've lived in Durango Colorado, Hood River Oregon, Port Aransas Texas and Fort Myers Florida. All of these places I've waited tables and it has allowed me to survive and save money to funnel into my business. However, it has also taking its toll in the form of dealing with Assholes and the party lifestyle that goes along with restaurant work. I moved Fort Myers Florida 3 1/2 years ago to enjoy the beach and start my own business. Before moving I registered the domain name  I immersed myself in the field of search engine optimization (SEO) and started off using low-level tactics like article marketing, social bookmarking and link networks and within six months I made my first sale.  Using these relatively simple tactics I was able to grow to 46,000 in sales in 2009. 2010 was an interesting year as I experimented with outsourcing my SEO work independent contractors. I got ripped off quite a few times in this year however my rank slowly did improved and gross sales rose to 72,000. This past year, I started taking over the SEO work myself as well as implementing videos onto my site and by the end of the year sales were 125,000. My goal for 2012 is to reach 250,000 in train horn sales. I feel this is reasonable due to the fact that I've experienced solid growth in the past three years while working on my site part-time. I feel that when all 40 hours of my work week are going into my business this type of growth should be attainable. I plan on growing my sales in two ways. The first way is to build a community around my interests.  The community will built on top of existing social media sites with my blog serving as the community hub.  The blog will cover the aftermarket automotive accessories market, seo, conversion rate optimization, e-commerce and home brewing. I know it's a mix match of topics; however these are my interests and I want this blog to be a reflection of me. I have quite a bit of knowledge in these areas I would like to connect with other people who have more knowledge then me to learn as well as help others get to my level. The second way I plan on growing my business is to expand into other verticals. This phase of the plan won't start until May.  The thought behind this is to use the authority that my site has built up to take over rankings of long tail keywords in other niches. Starting in May the plan is to expand into one new niche per week for the rest of the year.  This process will involve selecting new niches, identifying suppliers and creating copy. Feel free to follow my journey in self employment and feel free to email me or connect with me on social media.
